Firm architecture and a comfortable headboard come together in the Bed 05's modern European form. The headboard's solid oak frame is backed with white oak veneer slats and detailed with fabric straps and brass buttons which appear to hold the headboard. The side rails and footboard pair that veneer with solid oak feet. The side rails stand slightly proud of the slat base, giving the mattress a recess to sit in, with rounded corners softening the headboard frame and legs. The support system uses durable engineered wood slats, and building the frame is a familiar two-person task with the supplied hardware. Strength, durability and safety testing is rigorous here, and the packaging is tested in-house to withstand transit.

Velvet Vine, a deep, dark forest green, upholsters the headboard pad in a soft, dense pile. The oak finish lets the grain show, and that grain differs a little on every frame. Delivery is in two boxes, easier to carry through the house. Look for a 180 x 200cm mattress to fit the recessed rails.

Vacuum Velvet Vine with a soft brush head and wipe it over with a barely damp cloth. Blot any spill, then work gently with clean water and a mild soap solution on a cloth before letting it air dry. Strong sunlight fades velvet, so position the bed out of its path. The label calls for no washing, bleaching or tumble drying, with a gentle dry clean instead. It carries EasyClean treatment and a 100,000 Martindale rub count.
