Carbon Off Set Sofas

For every customer who purchases anything from us, we will offset the average carbon footprint of the product(s) purchased. We’ve teamed up with Ecologi, who offer transparent packages that invest in carbon reduction projects. You can track our progress here

How does this work?

The manufacturing of a footstool produces around 17kg of carbon, an item from our furniture collection produces around 25kg of carbon, and a sofa typically 90kg of carbon. We’re offsetting twice the typical amount per product (34kg a footstool, 50kg for furniture and 200kg per sofa). Ecologi lets us fund carbon offsetting projects, one tonne at a time. So, once we’ve sold five sofas, we will buy one tonne of carbon offsets.

Ecologi

We’ve teamed up with Ecologi, whose aim is to make tackling the climate crisis accessible to the likes of you and me. They want to help change the course of climate change by promoting sustainable solutions that will give back to the environment. Ecologi provides a platform for those who are empowered to do change.

There are plenty of carbon solutions out there which need support. If we all invested in them, we’d avoid emitting 1,500 billion tonnes of CO2 and can start to undo the past 30 years of carbon damage. Reducing our carbon footprint is essential, but the transition has been a lot slower than the time we have.

As Ecologi states on their website, the climate crisis is preventable. It’s up to us to figure out a way to solve it. They aim to do this in two ways:

1. Tree planting
One of the best ways to tackle rises in CO2 and to prevent ecological collapse is to plant trees. Ecologi have teamed up with their planting partner The Eden Reforestation Projects who plant millions of trees around the world every month. Ecologi are currently supporting their work in Madagascar.

2. Carbon reduction
Ecologi invests in carbon reduction projects, such as using waste biomass for electricity generation, or producing renewable wind energy. They support a range of projects that are certified at the highest level by Gold Standard Registry or the Verified Carbon Standard. All of the projects they support can be viewed here.

How can you get involved? Firstly, you can sign up by agreeing to offset your carbon footprint or fund climate projects globally. You can then set yourself eco goals, which are captured on your profile. You will also receive updates on the projects you’ve invested in. Ecologi involves the customers right from the start; instead of parting with money not knowing where it’s invested, you will be told which projects your money has funded and given on-going updates.

Ecologi believes it’s important to be transparent with their investments, so you can see a paper trail of the impact they are making. They have online receipts, reports, revenue dashboard and certificates which are available to everyone. They show evidence of carbon offset projects, receipts of tree planting initiatives and quarterly financial reports. The transparency is an incredible way to really understand where your money is being invested and how it’s helping fund projects around the world. Head to the transparency section on the about us page to review for yourself.

We are continuously working hard to minimise our environmental impact. We know we’re not quite there yet and we are always continuing to review our efforts, so here are the two other ways we are making an impact today:

Traceable, Sustainable certified materials

We only use traceable, sustainable certified woods when manufacturing our sofas, which ensures wood and other materials come from well-managed forests or recycled sources.

Biodegradable plastic

We want to ensure our packaging is made from 100% recyclable materials - easier said than done. Most of our packaging is cardboard, but in order to protect the cushions and fabric during transit we have had to use a form of plastic. This plastic is made with d2w technology.

D2w technology breaks down the plastic until it's no longer a plastic. It speeds up oxidation until the item can no longer be classed as plastic, with the end result leaving no trace of toxic residue or microplastics. D2w can be recycled with conventional polymer, is made with recylate and classed as biodegradable.
