Meet the Designer
Four designers. Decades of experience. One rule: if it doesn’t work as hard as it looks, it doesn’t leave the studio.
Every Swyft piece starts life in our UK design studio. Sofas that arrive in boxes and fit through any doorway. Frames that click together in minutes, no tools required. Storage, beds and tables designed to outlast trends — and toddlers. None of it happens by accident. It takes obsessive engineering, years of experience and a healthy disregard for how furniture has always been done.
Here’s the team responsible.
John - Design Director
“The best design is beautiful, functional, accessible and timeless — where every detail has a purpose.”
John has been designing furniture for almost 20 years. As part of Swyft’s founding team, he’s shaped every product we’ve launched since 2019. His influences are proudly mid-century Scandinavian: Hans Wegner, Dieter Rams, Jean Prouvé, and the enduring craft of Carl Hansen and Fritz Hansen.
The piece I’m proudest of
Model 01. The first-ever Swyft product had a lot to prove: that a proper, built-to-last sofa could arrive in boxes, fit through any doorway, and click together in minutes — no tools, no drama. It did. And its Swyft-Lok assembly became the blueprint for every sofa we’ve designed since.
Beck - Furniture Designer
“You’ve got to get comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to make something comfortable.”
Beck graduated in furniture design from Nottingham Trent University in 2015 and cut her teeth with some of the UK’s bespoke sofa makers, including The Sofa & Chair Company. She’s been part of the team since 2018 — before Swyft was even Swyft — and has designed more of the collection than anyone. Her style leans Japandi: the warmth of Japanese design, the restraint of Scandinavian.
The piece I’m proudest of
Model 08. Designed when Swyft was still young, it came with rare creative freedom — and Beck used every bit of it, designing everything down to the hinges.
Andre - Senior Designer
“The best products are the ones people use every day without having to think about them.”
André has worked in product design for over 18 years, much of it with the Portuguese design group behind luxury furniture brand BRABBU — sculptural, handcrafted pieces for high-end interiors. Since joining Swyft in December 2020, he’s designed across almost the entire collection: sofas, storage, tables, beds, desks and dining. He’s drawn to design that feels effortless — Scandinavian and Japanese principles, honest materials, and products that improve with age.
The piece I’m proudest of
Model 06. For André, it’s the balance he’s always chasing: comfort, aesthetics, functionality and manufacturability — with none sacrificed for the others.
Scott - Furniture Designer
“Beautiful form combined with thoughtful detail.”
The newest member of the studio, Scott studied Industrial Design at Bournemouth University and has been designing furniture for 12 years — creating hospitality and workplace pieces for Humanscale, Workstories and Morgan. When it comes to upholstery, one influence stands above the rest: Patricia Urquiola.
