Swyft, Electrical Waste and Recycling
WEEE, Battery & Lighting Recycling
We offer a free recycling service for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), ensuring that old electricals and lighting products are recycled responsibly.
What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. It covers almost anything powered by a plug or batteries – from kettles and keyboards to toys, toasters, and torches. Instead of being thrown away, these items can be collected, broken down, and recycled into valuable raw materials.
Recycling Batteries
Batteries contain metals and chemicals that can be harmful to the environment if disposed of with household rubbish. By recycling them, these materials can be recovered and reused safely. Look out for battery collection points in most supermarkets, shops, and local recycling centres.
Recycling Lighting & Light Bulbs
Energy-saving light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and some LED lighting contain small amounts of materials that need special handling. Instead of putting them in your household waste, these items should be taken to a designated recycling point. The glass, metals, and other components can then be safely recovered and reused.
- Most local recycling centres accept old bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Some larger retailers also provide collection points for used lighting products.
How we help
- Many retailers and local councils offer free collection points. You can find your nearest facility by visiting: www.recycleyourelectricals.org.uk
- When you buy a new electrical item from us, you can return your old one on a like-for-like basis for recycling.
- All new electrical and electronic products are marked with a crossed-out wheelie bin symbol. This symbol shows that the item can be recycled, or should be considered for repair or reuse rather than being thrown away.
