Interview with The Designer: Dining Chair 04

Our dining furniture family is growing, and we're here to introduce you to our latest member: Dining Chair 04. We sat down with the designer behind the Dining Chair 04, André, to get the scoop on our latest dining addition.
Talk us through the design process – what trials and tribulations did you run into when designing the Dining Chair 04?
Designing Dining Chair 04 was all about balance between comfort and lightness. The main challenge was getting the proportions right, we wanted a generous seat and backrest without making the piece feel bulky. Another key part was refining the connection between the fabric and wood. We wanted it to feel seamless, not hidden.
Some trial and error, but all aiming for a chair that feels effortless, both to look at and to sit in.
What are some unique features of dining chair 04 that customers might not notice right away?
The seat appears to float above the frame, giving it a light, refined look. The backrest subtly supports the lower back, and the upholstery wraps the form in a soft, sculptural way — details you really feel once you sit.
Can you talk us through your decision behind the materials used for Dining Chair 04?
The chair comes in two oak finishes: natural and black. Natural oak brings out the warmth and texture of the wood, while the black version feels bolder and more sculptural. The upholstered seat and back add softness and contrast, both visually and to the touch.
Dining Chair 04 is big on comfort - can you talk us through the benefits of the ergonomic design
Comfort was a priority from the start. The curved backrest offers gentle lumbar support, and the wide seat gives room to shift and relax. The foam density was carefully chosen to stay comfortable even after long meals.
What are your top 3 must-have features for a dining table and chair?
For me, it’s all about:
Comfort – especially for long dinners.
Proportions – the right scale makes everything feel balanced.
Tactility – materials should feel as good as they look.
How did you balance aesthetics with comfort and usability?
I started with comfort as the foundation — the curves, seat height, and foam were all tested around that. From there, I refined the proportions and lines to keep the silhouette clean and elegant. It’s a constant back-and-forth between feel and form, until both work in harmony.
