Interview: On the sofa with Charlotte Page

Charlotte Page is a home, interiors and event stylist and the Acting Style & Interiors Editor at House Beautiful. Bold colours and textures are frequent visitors in Charlotte’s work (and home) and we love the way she mixes styles to create eclectic, vibrant spaces.
Here, we catch up with Charlotte on her Model 06 sofa, to talk interiors inspo, favourite spaces and why you shouldn’t chop your cushions.

If you were to describe your living room as a mood, what would it be?
Cosy. It’s the first area of the new flat I wanted to focus on, as I love having friends over for movie nights. It’s also a space I enjoy reading, working and watching TV, so it has to be inviting and create a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere.
Fill in the gaps. For me, a sofa has to be ________ and ________, but above all, ________.
Huge.
Timeless.
Comfortable.

What made you choose the Model 06 in Fern Bouclé?
Firstly, its generous size was a huge selling point. I've always dreamed of having a deep sofa you can sink into, like being hugged. The colour is practical (I'm a little clumsy), but not too bold. Its natural tone adds a touch of sophistication and complements the other pieces in my living room perfectly. The bouclé fabric is plush and soft, blending seamlessly with the fern green. I also love that it's modular, so if I ever decide to turn it into a corner sofa, it’s an easy adjustment, no fuss.
How are you styling your new sofa?
I mix slubby linen with patterned velvet cushions in shades of burgundy, pink and soft green. The combination of fabrics and colours creates a winning combination that keeps it visually interesting. When styling, I place the larger cushions at the back, with a contrasting colour or pattern in front. I tend to avoid placing cushions in the center, allowing the sofa to feel open and balanced. As a cosy queen I like to lay out the softer fabric cushions in a more relaxed manor, it’s inviting and homely.

What are your living room decor “dos” and “don’ts”?
- Don’t chop your cushions, fluffed up is best. What did the poor cushions ever do to you?
- Do use warm white light bulbs to create a cosy atmosphere. Having the main lights on feels so harsh and uninviting.
- Don’t put your sofa up against the wall, it can make a room feel disconnected and disrupt the flow. Give it a little bit of space.
- Do trust your instincts and your choices, and always remember that your home should be a true reflection of who you are.
What’s your favourite corner in your home and why?
I collaborated with the brand Tylko and designed my own side table and it’s become the perfect little spot. The unit is a rich burgundy which gives it a warm and inviting feel. I’ve styled it with a few of my favourite pieces from And Objects, along with a plant that I’ve somehow managed to keep alive! The artwork includes a Rothko print from King & McGaw and a framed print from the National Portrait Gallery of Judith Kerr with her cat Katinka, both pieces I adore.

What’s your “holy grail” piece of furniture, lighting or home decor?
Not a day goes by that I’m not browsing Facebook Marketplace. One of my all-time favourite finds, a true ride-or-die piece, is my glass and acrylic coffee table designed by Nigel Carew-Jones. I still dream of adding something like USM Modular Furniture to my collection. It's world class and incredibly stylish, a real game-changer.
What are your tablescape must-haves?
Hosting brings me so much joy - it's a chance to be creative, have fun, and instantly sets the stage for great conversations. It’s also a perfect way to express your personal style! When it comes to table decor, there are a few essentials I can't skip. High-quality napkins are a must for me; they instantly elevate the look of the table while adding a pop of color or pattern. Candle holders are always a winner too, and the soft, calming glow of candlelight just creates the best atmosphere. There are so many must-haves, but if I had to choose one last piece, it would definitely be glassware. I love the look of tumblers and wine glasses, whether they match or not, depending on the vibe of the event. I’m especially drawn to speckled glasses - they have that Murano glass feel but are much more affordable, and each one feels so unique and stylish!

One recent design trend you hope is here to stay?
Stainless steel, it’s the metal of the moment. I recently picked up a desk/dining table (another gem from Facebook Marketplace), and I’m absolutely in love with it. I’ve always dreamed of having a stainless steel kitchen - it’s so sleek and modern. If you’re not ready to go all in, decor accessories are a fantastic way to incorporate stainless steel into your home.
Where do you look for interior design inspiration?
Everywhere! Instagram is one of my favourite spaces, it’s so positive for me because 99% of the people I follow are in the industry. I love seeing fresh photoshoots, new homes, and how others are styling their spaces. Exhibitions and galleries are incredibly inspiring too, offering incredible colour palettes and shapes that spark my creativity. And I’m also a huge fan of Pinterest, it's the perfect platform for creating mood boards and discovering unique ideas you might not find anywhere else. I do a lot of walking, whether that’s in London or other cities around the world, I find so much inspiration in the architecture, design, materials, and nature. If I’m feeling a little uninspired, I will always just get outside and walk, you don’t know what you might stumble upon!
