Ever wondered what goes into creating a piece of furniture? We sat down with the designer behind our popular Chair 04, André, to delve into its design philosophy, the challenges faced, and the subtle details that make it truly unique.

Talk us through your inspiration – what makes the Chair 04 stand out amongst the rest?

Chair 04 is all about contrast — soft, generous cushions wrapped in a sleek metal frame. We wanted to blend comfort with visual lightness.

The exposed steel tubing isn’t just structure, it outlines the form like a sketch. It’s compact but inviting

What we’re your biggest challenges when designing Chair 04?

One of the biggest challenges was finding the right balance between structure and comfort. We wanted the metal frame to feel light and minimal, but still provide full support for the generous, cushioned volumes.

Another challenge was the upholstery — getting the curves just right so the chair feels soft and inviting, without looking bulky. It took some prototypes to make sure the proportions felt right.

What are some unique features of Chair 04 that customers might not notice right away?

One subtle feature is how the metal frame isn’t just decorative — it actually cradles the entire seat and supports the structure, almost like a skeleton. It gives the chair a floating feel, especially when viewed from the side.

Also, the seat is slightly angled on purpose — it tucks you in more than you'd expect, adding extra comfort . The whole design is about hidden generosity: compact on the outside, surprisingly plush when you sit.

Design-wise, what are you most proud of with Chair 04?

I’m proud of how Chair 04 balances boldness and simplicity. The metal frame defines the shape without overpowering it, and the comfort is a surprise — it looks structured, but feels soft and inviting.

Talk us through the design process – what trials and tribulations did you run into, if any?

The challenge was getting the balance right — early prototypes were too bulky. Fine-tuning the frame and cushion proportions took time. But that trial and error is what made it work.

What is your go-to chair accessory?

A good throw in a contrasting texture — something soft and a bit oversized. It adds warmth without hiding the design.
