Interview with The Designer: Chair 01

Hello, Model 02 armchair. As always, we had a chat with furniture designer, André, to get an idea of what we were trying to achieve with the Model 02 armchair, what inspired the design and how long it took to launch.

Talk us through the design process – what trials and tribulations did you run into, if any?

Chair 01 was a balance of elegance and strength. The biggest challenge was refining the armrests — slim but sturdy. Getting the comfort right took time too, especially the back angle and seat depth. Simple in looks, but carefully tuned.

How do you find the perfect balance between aesthetic appeal and comfort when designing?

For me, it starts with comfort — if a piece doesn’t feel good, the design doesn’t matter. From there, it’s about refining the form until it feels natural. I look for clean lines that support the body, and let the structure do the talking. Balance comes from stripping away the excess, but never at the cost of how it feels.

How do you ensure your designs remain timeless whilst staying relevant to customers?

I focus on clean forms, honest materials, and subtle details — things that age well. At the same time, I think about how people live today: smaller spaces, multifunctional needs.

How would you style Chair 01 in your home?

I’d pair Chair 01 with soft, neutral tones to let the wood and shape stand out — maybe next to a textured rug or a simple linen curtain. I also like the idea of it on its own in a reading corner, with a floor lamp and a small side table.

What do you look for in an occasional chair?

I look for character and comfort. An occasional chair should feel special — something with a strong silhouette or unique detail that stands on its own. But it also needs to invite you in.
