Burgundy is making a comeback like never before. Deep red shades have had a strong presence in the fashion world this year, and now we’re seeing them make their way from the runway and into our homes. This colour is perfect for those with a contemporary and modern style, to create a space that feels luxurious and stylish.
Earlier in 2024, the internet went wild over the 'unexpected red theory.' This trend involved designers adding a small pop of red, whether through a lamp, accent chair, or other home decor, to instantly elevate a space. As we approach the final months of 2024, the focus has shifted to richer tones like burgundy and cherry hues. Instead of subtle pops of colour, these deeper shades are becoming the foundation of a room’s design, taking centre stage in interior palettes.
The WGSN x Coloro collaboration predicts that Intense Rust, a warm deep shade of red, will be the colour of the season for AW 24/25. This hue embodies warmth and richness, an ideal palette for creating a cosy and inviting space.
How do you bring the trend into your home?
1. Incorporate dark wood finishes. When choosing furnishings or accents, avoid glass or chrome metals that can feel too cold. Instead, opt for mid to dark wood finishes that add warmth and complement the richness of burgundy.
2. Avoid adding any overly-traditional elements into your space. The colour is contemporary and chic, so traditional or vintage finds can clash and make the space feel dated. Opt for a minimalistic approach with your decor, avoiding anything that feels like visual clutter.
3. Layer soft furnishings like oversized cushions and large plush throws. This adds comfort and makes the room look welcoming for relaxing and recharging. When considering your fabrics, velvets and wool add to the luxurious element of the space.
4. Your furniture should have a minimalistic, contemporary feel if you want to nail this trend. For example, sofa styles with clean lines and a boxy finish, like our Model 03 sofa, can be paired perfectly with rounded coffee tables. Alternatively our Model 05 with it’s curvaceous shape and low arms, create the illusion of a deeper seat, making the room cosy and inviting. This sofa can be combined with our Coffee Table 01 in Walnut for that moody vibe that this trend requires.
5. Lighting should remain subtle and soft, avoiding any harsh or overly bright overhead fixtures. Instead of cool light, choose an orange or warm ambient glow that enhances and compliments the colour palette.
