5 Steps To Bring 'Cottagecore' Into Your Home

The ‘Cottagecore’ aesthetic blends the charm of country living with a whimsical, fairytale-like woodland feel, creating an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It’s a style that invites you to imagine long, peaceful afternoons spent in a quaint countryside cottage, surrounded by soft textiles, vintage furniture, and the soothing glow of low-level lighting.

Inspired by the simplicity of rural life and the beauty of nature, Cottagecore has surged in popularity for its comforting, nostalgic appeal. Pinterest reports a 370% rise in searches for "floral room aesthetic," reflecting the trend’s whimsical woodland influence. This growing interest highlights a desire for earthy tones and floral patterns, as people look to create magical, nature-inspired retreats in their homes.

You don’t need to live in a rural, remote setting to achieve cottagecore in your home. Your space can be transformed into a peaceful sanctuary with a few subtle changes. Here's 5 steps recommended by expert designer, Kelly Collins, to master this trend.

How do you bring the trend into your home?

1. Set the mood for this trend with an earthy colour palette. Neutral browns and greens combined with pastel shades like light blues and muted pinks, bring a countryside warmth into your home.

2. Comfort is key in cottagecore. Layering soft, tactile fabrics like boucle and velvet make the space feel homely and add warmth. Create a slumped, cosy seating arrangement with our Model 06 sofa. It’s deep proportions and oversized cushions make it ideal for establishing a cocoon-like escape.

3. Evoke a quaint countryside aesthetic with an eclectic approach, incorporating patterned fabrics and vintage decor. Washed-down florals and check prints add subtle depth without overwhelming the space. Add character with whimsical woodland-inspired decor like wooden trays, handmade pottery and vintage trinkets on your shelves.

4. Lighting plays a key role in achieving a calming space to unwind. Low-level lighting with a warm, ambient glow adds to the charm of a cottage-inspired home. The addition of small table lamps and candles are ideal for creating pools of light without harsh, overhead lighting.

5. The essence of cottagecore is celebrating the character of vintage furniture. Exposed wood pieces that are slightly worn-out, with scratches and grainy texture make the space feel lived-in and authentic. Although you want to lean into a traditional aesthetic, you can balance with modern pieces of furniture for a chic, finished look.
