In today's fast-paced world, finding solace within the confines of our homes has become a pursuit for many that seek refuge from the clamor of daily life. A quiet luxury home goes beyond opulence; it embraces tranquility as a fundamental element of its design. In this era where noise is inevitable, creating a haven of peace within our living spaces becomes an art form in itself.

In this blog, we unveil a carefully curated 10-step guide to transform your living space into a place of calm and sophistication. Here, we explore intentional living, unraveling the secrets to a home that not only radiates opulence but also whispers serenity in every corner.

10 steps to create quiet luxury in your home

What is quiet luxury?

Quiet luxury is an interior trend that sees beiges, warm browns, caramels, and maybe even blacks, paired with luxurious fabrics like thick velvets, and cashmere. Quiet luxury steers clear of anything branded or too garish. It’s an understated luxury that promotes intended living.

We sat down with our interior designer, Kelly Collins, to discuss the 10 steps to take if you want to create a home that evokes quiet luxury:

1. Colour palettes: stick with muted tones and steer clear of garish colours

Embrace muted tones such as soft greys, muted blues, and earthy neutrals to create an atmosphere of understated sophistication. Avoid bold and garish colors that may disrupt the calm aesthetic of a quiet luxury home.

2. Textured: luxurious texture - boucle, velvets, or anything that feels luxurious

Elevate your space with sumptuous textures like bouclé, velvet, and cashmere. Incorporate these materials into your furnishings, such as plush throw pillows, cozy blankets, or a velvety accent chair, to add a touch of tactile luxury to every corner.

3. Patterns: only do small pattern repeats, don’t go sparingly.

Opt for small, subtle pattern repeats in furnishings and decor. Striking a balance between visual interest and restraint, these delicate patterns can be incorporated into throw pillows, rugs, or accent pieces, avoiding overwhelming the space with busy designs.

4. Quality of quantity - less is more: Better quality products and less products.

Invest in high-quality products rather than flooding your space with cheap alternatives. A few well-chosen, premium pieces can make a more profound impact, exuding a sense of luxury that surpasses the abundance of less refined options.

5. Lightning: low-level lighting

Create a tranquil ambiance with low-level lighting. Use floor lamps, table lamps, and wall sconces to cast a soft glow throughout the room, avoiding harsh and glaring lights that disrupt the serene atmosphere.

6. Luxury scents:

Infuse your space with sophisticated scents through the use of diffusers and scented candles. Opt for fragrances that evoke a sense of luxury, such as notes of cedar, lavender, or sandalwood, transforming your home into a sensorial retreat.

7. Expensive-looking finishes: use expensive finishes on your accessories.

Achieve a lavish feel with smaller accessories featuring expensive finishes. If a marble coffee table is beyond reach, consider adding the opulence of marble through coasters, trays, or smaller decor items to impart a touch of luxury without breaking the budget.

8. Simplicity and minimalism: Remove all of your clutter – and add clean, minimalist accessories.

Embrace the principle of "less is more" by decluttering your space. Replace unnecessary items with clean, minimalist accessories that contribute to an uncluttered and serene environment, allowing each piece to shine on its own.

9. Curved furniture

Opt for furniture with soft, curved lines to eliminate sharp edges and create a more inviting and flowing aesthetic. Incorporate curved sofas (like Swyft's Model 05), chairs, and lighting fixtures to enhance the overall sense of comfort and visual harmony in your quiet luxury home.

10. Smart technology

If you want to create a calm luxury aesthetic,  we don’t want to see any wires. Conceal wires and seamlessly integrate smart technology to maintain the sleek and unobtrusive appearance of your space. Choose devices and gadgets that blend effortlessly into the background, ensuring that technology complements rather than disrupts the overall calm and luxurious atmosphere.

Will quiet luxury continue as a trend into 2024?

It was a trend last year – that will continue into 2024, but we will see a different touch on ‘quiet luxury’. Soft, cozier fabrics; layering of natural textures instead of patterns. It’s not quite the ‘quiet luxury’ that we know from 2023, but there are aspects of it that we will see in other trends.

What are the easiest ways to add a touch of quiet luxury?

There are many easy and inexpensive ways that we can do that. Remove any garish bright colours on your walls, and replace them by painting a beautiful caramel or beige. Add a lovely velvet big throw, maybe some boucle or velvet cushions, so it’s about layering different textures.

Stay away from strong patterns and garish colours. Keep up with a warm neutral colour palette, like neutral colours that have undertones of yellows and reds. Stay away from the neutral colors that have undertones of greys and blues.
