It’s a Sunday evening. Your house is clean. The candles are on. And you’re all set for the week ahead. Is there a better feeling?

Cleaning your home on a Sunday is a great way to round off the weekend and get into a productive mindset. It can also help you reduce stress throughout the week—giving you less to handle at home while you’re juggling work, the school run (and countless other tasks).

But where do you start? Our room-by-room Sunday cleaning checklist breaks down exactly what you need to do to make your home sparkle and take on whatever the week throws your way.

Weekly cleaning checklist for your living room

Prep your space for chill time.

  • Do a quick tidy: put away any books, cups, toys (or whatever) to where they’re supposed to be.

  • Dust surfaces: wipe down and polish your coffee table, TV unit and shelves.

  • Clean the floors: sweep and mop hard floors, or vacuum carpets and rugs.

  • Refresh sofas and chairs: vacuum crumbs, spot-clean spills, fluff cushions and fold blankets

Weekly cleaning checklist for your kitchen

Sink zero is the new inbox zero.

  • Clear the countertops: put away any dishes on the drying rack, or appliances that you’re not using in the next week (e.g. the stand mixer you used to make brownies on Friday night).
  • Wipe down surfaces: clean counters, cooker, backsplash, dining table and cabinet doors.

  • Clean the fridge: use up your leftovers, bin any expired items and wipe down the shelves.

  • Sweep and mop floors: clean away any crumbs or spills.

  • Make the sink sparkle: scrub the sink, the tap and drying racks.

  • Empty rubbish: take out any rubbish, clean the bins and replace the liner. Tip: tap a few drops of your favourite essential oil in the bottom of your bins to keep them smelling fresh.

Weekly cleaning checklist for your bathroom

Because nothing kills your productive streak like being stuck on the loo with no toilet paper.

  • Declutter the bathroom: get rid of empty shampoo bottles, toilet roll inners and used towels.

  • Clean the bath and/or shower: scrub the bath, shower glass, tiles, plug and fixtures.

  • Clean the sink: wipe down surfaces and mirrors.

  • Clean the toilet: scrub outside and inside the toilet bowl.

  • Empty the bins: take out any rubbish, clean the bin and replace the liner.

  • Clean the floors: sweep away any dust and mop thoroughly.

  • Restock essentials: replenish toilet paper, toothpaste, hand soap and towels.

Weekly cleaning checklist for your bedroom(s)

Fresh week. Fresh sheets.

  • Remove clutter: take empty glasses or mugs to the kitchen and put away any laundry.

  • Dust surfaces: clean dressers, bedside tables, and lamps.

  • Clean floors: sweep and mop hard floors, or vacuum carpets and rugs.

  • Change your bed: vacuum your mattress and refresh your bed with clean sheets and pillowcases.

  • Make it a sanctuary: fluff cushions, fold throw blankets and light your favourite candle.

Weekly cleaning checklist for your hallway

Life’s easier when we can find our keys.

  • Clear space: remove shoes, bags and extra jackets from the coat rack. Also, bin any wrappers or unwanted receipts from bags.

  • Wipe down surfaces: clean the console table, lamps and mirrors.

  • Clean floors: sweep and mop hard floors, or vacuum carpets and rugs.

  • Clean doormats: shake and vacuum doormats to remove excess dirt.

  • Prep ahead: gather any keys, coats or bags you need for the week ahead, and place in your hallway for quick, easy access on Monday morning.

Bonus: Weekly cleaning checklist for your car

Because we need our cup holders to be empty for Monday’s coffee run.

  • Declutter: remove empty wrappers, cups and receipts from holders and door pockets.

  • Empty the boot: pop scooters back in the shed, or take that Facebook Marketplace find into the house.

  • Clean the floors: shake out car mats and hoover the carpets (don’t forget under the seats)

  • Clean seats: if needed, vacuum any crumbs or dirt from the seats (including children’s car seats).

  • Wipe surfaces: with a microfibre cloth, clean the dashboard, steering wheel and door panels.

  • Top up essentials: umbrellas, water bottles, de-icer etc.
