This week we're catching up with Swyft interiors expert Kelly for a run-down of three living room looks that put storage ottomans front and centre.
Why are storage ottomans good for living rooms?
We're all familiar with plastic storage containers. From pantries in the kitchen to toiletries in the bathroom, they're handy for everyday items. When curating your living room design, however, you should choose storage that fits more seamlessly into the overall look. This is where storage ottomans tick all the boxes for living rooms that are clutter-free, without compromising on aesthetics. Plus, they're useful for an extra place to perch.
Look #1 - Tropical Feel
"Everyone over on our Instagram is loving this one!", says Kelly. "This setup features the Model 05 sofa in Brick and two ottomans- Storage 01 in Pumice, and Storage 03 in Mustard. Many of the colours I chose here came from similar tones which I don’t usually do, but here I felt the matching look could work (and it did!)".
"The bold contrast of the ottomans makes sure it’s still visually interesting enough to the eye. In this living room, I consciously kept the accessories minimal. You’ll want to do this if you’ve got loads of bold colours going on or it can look a little busy, especially as most want their living spaces designs to be relaxing", says Kelly.
Look #2 - Loft Style Living
"The Model 02 in Vine is such a great mid-century/retro vibe which was always going to look good in this really airy, open setting. The red hues of the exposed brick wall in the background are a nice contrast to the green velvet", she explains.
"Again, I’ve added similar tones with a light sage green cushion and circular contemporary side table. Pairing the sofa with a natural jute area rug and sprawling leafy plants enhances that warehouse/loft vibe. Finally, I’ve added a matching Storage Ottoman 02 in centre stage- a great place to put your feet up".
Look #3 - A Mustard Pop
"Could this amazing Mustard Model 05 stand out anymore?! Obsessed. This beauty isn’t only just for maximalists, so I wanted to show it in a more subtle environment like the above", says Kelly. "The panelled back wall is the epitome of paired-back perfection and really allows the curved silhouette of this sofa to stand out as it should".
"I’ve brought in subtle blue tones with a metal side table here, some artwork, and a Storage Ottoman 03 in Pumice to soften this look even more. I don’t know about you, but this one looks seriously cosy to me", she says.
