It may not feel like it, but the Spring Equinox is almost upon us. Not only is a spring clean about getting rid of unwanted clutter, it should also involve doing the cleaning chores you’ve been putting off for the year.
With that in mind, we’ve come up with a number of quick-fire ideas of how you can get your home ready for the new seasons.
Sort out your wardrobe

There is no better way to kick start your spring clean than to sort out the wardrobe. Not only can decluttering your wardrobe clear the mind and boost your mood, but it’s also the perfect way to get dust off your spring and summer clothes.
Think of it as a money maker. Clearing out your unwanted outfits is a perfect excuse to sell them online; apps like Depop and Vinted make it very easy. If you can’t be bothered with all the admin that comes with selling, donate them to a charity shop – giving back is a guaranteed mood booster.
Swap dark accessories for light ones
The days are getting longer, so let the light in. Keeping the curtains open is a quick win, but have you ever thought about totally removing dark accessories from your home and replacing them with lighter tones? In the living room, for example, add a lighter shaded and patterned rug, or swap out any dark grey, blue or green tone cushions from the sofa and replace with lighter shades.
Introduce flowers

Head down to your local market or flower market and pick up a couple colourful bouquets for the house. It doesn't take much effort, but can make all of the difference for your home.
If a market isn’t your thing, you can get a selection of flowers delivered to your home with Bloom & Wild or Freddie’s Flowers. The colour will instantly make a room feel fresh; the aroma of fresh flowers will also waft throughout the home. You can’t beat it.
Weed the garden
As we’re talking about flowers, it’s time to dig out your overalls and dust off the spade. Summer is almost upon, which means you need to get your garden ready to host BBQs.
Simply removing any weeds from the decking or flower beds can transform the space with little effort. If you’re fortunate enough to have a flower bed, create a new herb garden or add seasonal plants. Also, don’t forget to make sure the BBQ and outdoor furniture is clean and in a good working condition.
Deep-clean the house

Time to give the house a proper deep clean. That means pulling the sofa away from the wall, flipping the mattress, cleaning the skirting boards and dusting the shelving units. No matter how clean you are, there will be a build up of dust lurking in a corner somewhere.
If you’ve been slack on airing out the bathroom after showers this winter, you can be forgiven, but now is your time to check for mould. Also, make sure you defrost the freezer and scrub the oven clean.
Finally, if you have time and are not exhausted by the above, head to the attic or basement to make work on those forgotten areas.
Clear the house of junk
A cleaner house is a more harmonious one, yet we naturally hold onto objects that we don’t need. Whether we know it or not, we hoard. Use this spring clean as a way to get rid of, or sell, unwanted items. Channel your inner Marie Kondo: "Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle."
Think about the last time you used those items. If it’s longer than a year, time to get rid. Chuck it out.
Add lighter bedding to bedroom

This is very simple but effective. Changing the bedding for lighter tones can make the room feel light, airy and fresh without doing much else. Adding lavender spray to the room and bedding can also make the room smell nice, and guarantees a good night’s sleep. Perfect.
