2022, Year of the Tiger: 4 bold, rebellious colour schemes

2022 is the Year of the Tiger, which means we expect to be bolder, zestier, more rebellious, and regal than ever before. Always on the design zeitgeist, we have launched four new colourways to meet the growing trend of embracing all things bold and beautiful.

According to Architectural Digest: “Our choice of colour palette will become more confident as we experience new feelings of hope and positivity for the future”. Timothy Corrigan tells Vogue: The year’s of dull and muted colours have given way to bright, joyful colours that put a smile on your face.”

The new four colourways are part of our Model 05 collection, which creates a completely different look and feel to the current range. To help you embrace the Year of the Tiger and everything that comes with it, we have curated four moodboards celebrating the design trends set to make their mark this year.

Mustard

The Model 05 loveseat in mustard is the perfect way to make an impact on your room. Mustard is a bright colour, but if used correctly can create areas of interest and help balance the room.

In this moodboard, we’ve highlighted the different ways the colour can be introduced. The Model 05 mustard is a beautiful, bold statement which can be paired perfectly with smaller transitional items: rugs, vases, tableware and lighting. This will also help bring the room together nicely.

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director of Dulux, comments: 'After so long trapped indoors we have come to appreciate the power of nature to uplift and revitalise us. Colour-wise we are throwing open the doors and windows and inviting every shade of nature in for tea.'

Blush

Blush is a neutral colour with a cheeky personality. The Model 05, 2 seater in blush offers a modest elegance – and is the perfect way to introduce a shade of pink into your interior. It’s quieter than mustard, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less impactful.

Different shades of pink can be used to create balance and interest around the room. In the moodboard, we’ve achieved this through layering with accessories; the rug, for example, can be either a similar tone to the sofa or darker one to create distinction between the items. A plant not only brings the outside in, but also introduces green to the palette, which can be used in other items. Vases, lampshades, table lamps, paint and cushions can also be used as a way to continue the colour scheme.

Athena Calderone says, neutrals will take a bit of a back seat in 2022 as people start to experiment with colour again, but the palette will stay very close to hues you’d find in nature. We predict paint rollers will be dipped in rosy, terracotta tones, swathing rooms from wall to ceiling for a complete monochromatic moment that envelops you in its cosiness.”

Turquoise

With travel on the horizon, Turquoise reminds us of escaping to warmer climes and dipping our toes in crystal clear waters. It’s a bright colour, which conjures up feelings of escapism and nostalgia. Turquoise evokes the sense of calm whilst still adding personality to a room. The Model 05 in turquoise is a neutral yet inviting colourway.

In the moodboard, we pair the sofa with artwork, rugs, lighting and paint to keep the interior feeling fresh and light.

Charcoal

Following years of monochrome and white minimalism, Charcoal has evolved as a fantastic backdrop to play with texture and colour, and accentuate softer curves to envelop us. The Model 05 in grey is another dark option if grey doesn’t suit; it has brown tones, creating more interest.

In the moodboard, we’ve added throws and bedding of similar shades, which are mixed with neutral whites to help balance the interior. The patterned lamp and cushions follow this trend to help keep the interior feeling light.
