12 Easy Ideas To Refresh Your Home This Bank Holiday

With the final bank holiday of the Summer, it’s a great chance to use the extra bit of time you have to give your home a refresh. Whilst home transformations take weeks to plan, there’s a few easy ways you can change up your interiors and tick tasks off your home checklist to transform your space. Here’s a few ideas to get you started.

1. Paint your front door

Is your front door looking dull and faded following the winter weather? Whilst the sunlight hours are longer and weather is warmer, use this opportunity to give your front door a refresh with a coat of paint.

2. Rearrange your furniture

If you’re bored of the current layout in one your rooms then a quick way to give it an update is to rearrange any of your furniture. Read our blog posts on ‘6 Living Room Layout Mistakes To Avoid’ or ‘8 Ways To Redefine Your Space in 2024’, if you’re stuck on how to get the rearranging done right. It will feel like a whole new space by the time you’re finished with it.

3. Change your home fragrance

Introducing a new scent can breathe new life into your home. As we start to look towards the Autumnal months, this is a great time to start seeking a fragrance which makes you excited for that transition.

4. Repurpose glass bottles

Dig through your recycling and resurface any glasses or jars. Wash them out and remove any labels to use as a vase. Not only are you helping the environment by reusing these pieces but you’re also creating opportunities for new home décor.

5. Swap out your artwork

Update any dated artwork in your frames with some newness. If you don’t want to spend money on investing in new prints, get the whole family involved in collecting flowers or foliage from the garden and pressing them. It’s a fun activity to keep everyone occupied as well as giving your home a quick refresh.

6. Repot your plants

There’s no denying that repotting house plants is a chore but this long weekend is a great excuse to get the task done. Show them some love and care by giving the plant a trim, spraying the leaves or topping up the soil.

7. Restyle your shelves

Get creative moving around any of your home décor on shelving units. First give the sides a dust, try swapping decor from different rooms so it feels like you’re giving the space a complete new look. Need some inspiration? Read our blog for ‘5 Ideas For Styling Living Room Shelves’.

8. Upcycle old furnishings

If you’ve got a little more time on your hands this weekend then take on this bigger project. If there are any old home furnishings which are looking tired, breathe new life into them by taking some inspiration from our ‘Top 10 Furniture Upcycling Ideas’.

9. Change your window treatments

You’ll be surprised how dramatic of a change updating the dressing of your windows will give to your overall room appearance. Swap out your curtains, add a track with the addition of a sheer drape to add dimension or just add some new décor to the window sill.

10. Give your garden some love

Your garden will more than likely start to get neglected as we head into the Autumn months so this could be the last opportunity to do a tidy-up before the Summer draws to a close. Look at reorganising your shed or garage to store away any garden furniture, prep your soil and clean your tools.

11. Switch out soft furnishings

This is a little change which goes a long way. Soft textiles are what make your room feel cosy and welcoming, so when they’re starting to feel a bit worn down it might be time to give them a refresh. Do a deep clean of your rugs, swap your living room and bedroom decorative cushions or throws around to add a new touch to an existing scheme.

12. Give your mattress a clean

Did you know you should clean your mattress every 6 months? Whilst the weather is warmer, it might be a good idea to give your mattress a deep clean so it has a chance to dry out. Once the weather gets colder, mildew and mould can build if a mattress is not dried out correctly.
